Jake maybe that once in a
life time obedience dog that an experienced handle dreams about. Jake didn't
fall into the hands of experienced handlers thou, but into ours and has done
quite well in the obedience ring sometimes in spite of us. In hind sight this
would be our only regret with Jake, that we were not experienced enough as first
time handlers to take him to his full potential. Jake obtained his CD in short
order 3 trials, 3 Legs, 2 Hits, all scores above 190. At four months of age Jake went off to his
first obedience class with his favorite person, Mom. I have often been told since
then by experienced handlers that they knew then he could be a great obedience
dog. After finishing his CD Jake went on to Open classes trying to obtain his CDX but fell into some pit falls of inexperienced handlers. Jake has finished
his CDX at this point and is trying very hard at those utility exercises.
Jake continues to trial at the Open B level while he trains for utility
because he really like to go to the trials and we believe we should
support those activities we enjoy.
Below are
some pictures of Jake's qualifying scores - There would be to many pictures to
include all of them here, but below are some of the bigger wins and milestones
that he achieved. Jake will continue to trial in Open and as a Veteran as long
as he enjoys it and is able to continue doing so. You'll notice Jake has
had big wins with more then one handler, that's because we have trouble keeping
up with the old guy. Sometimes the biggest debate about entering Jake in the
trials is who will handle him. Jake's first High in Trial came at the age of 2
but he continues to perform at a high level picking up his last HIT at the age
of 9 1/2.
Even now
looking back at the pictures below sends chills up my back remembering each time
we entered the ring hold on because you were in for the ride of your life. At
least one of us knew exactly what they were at and I'll be first to admit it was
the one with four on the floor.Jake @ 9 1/2 years
