Silverthaw Shetland Sheepdog, Newfoundland

Welcome to Silverthaw Shelties we hope you enjoy your visit.

The purpose of our homepage is to display to fellow dog enthusiasts our dogs and hopefully share some information that was gratefully shared with us since our introduction into the world of dogs and dog shows.

Silverthaw Shelties is located in St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada.  St. John's is the oldest and most easterly City in North America.

Silverthaw Shelties draws its name from a dictionary of Newfoundland English.

Silverthaw n. A condition of the weather in which freezing rain deposits a coating of ice on exposed objects; the gradual deposits of ice on country side, trees, etc. during a freezing rain.

Silverthaw can be a very beautiful weather condition, but a very dangerous condition at the same time. We feel this can also apply to dogs, while a dog can be visually pleasant to the eye and a beautiful worker, they can be dangerous in the wrong hands.

Our goal is to establish a selective breeding program that produces healthy companions with sound minds and bodies that conforms to the breed standard. We are members in good standing with the Canadian Kennel Club, Canadian Shetland Sheepdog Association and the Newfoundland (all breed) Kennel Club. We actively participate in obedience, agility and conformation training, exhibition and trialing.
